Wow. Six months now! We are sure ready for this virus business to be over with. As we have said in previous updates, things are loosening up, gradually, in senior living.

While procedures vary by facility and by county, some properties are allowing modified and virtual tours. Senior living management teams are bending over backwards to try to accommodate families who need to get a decision made and move seniors forward for care and secure living. We, at Senior Care Options, have been able to assist a good number of families with successful move-ins to Assisted Living this summer! Even though visitations are mostly curtailed, families are happy and relieved that seniors can move in and receive much needed care and assistance.

Of course, all senior living properties must follow state guidelines and do their very best to make sure a safe property is maintained. As you might expect, potential new residents will be required to have a Covid test along with the normal LIC 602 doctor’s report.

A NEW NORMAL – MASKS AND SOCIAL DISTANCING

Even though 14 day quarantines and special caution is being used for all new move-ins, Assisted Living has adopted "new normal" practices. We might even find that improved standard practices will come out of this difficult time. In any case, California Department of Social Services provides guidance. DSS is able to observe, on a state-wide basis, creative best practices that are being developed at various properties. These practices are shared in the industry and they will contribute to safer senior living practices long into the future.

So, back to your needs... Be aware that move-ins and home care are available for seniors. There has been an evolution of best practices that will help to make seniors safe. Dining rooms and activities are opening on a modified basis. Modified tours are available. Be ready to watch some nice tour videos and possibly meet management teams outside of the buildings. Of course, you know that these precautions are for the safety of senior residents. Yes, social distancing and masks are the norm... even for seniors.
